What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that primarily affects reading, spelling, and writing. It’s a difference in how the brain processes language, and it can make tasks like decoding words, remembering spellings, or reading fluently more difficult.
Dyslexia is not related to intelligence—in fact, many people with dyslexia are highly creative, strong problem-solvers, and have excellent verbal skills.
Common signs include:
-
Difficulty sounding out words or recognising familiar ones
-
Poor spelling and written expression
-
Slow or effortful reading
-
Struggles with organisation or memory for sequences
With the right support, people with dyslexia can achieve incredible things. Early identification through assessment is the first step toward understanding how someone learns best, and unlocking their full potential.
